The grips on this gun are desert ironwood. It’s difficult to find pieces large enough for grips without cracks in them. With the bull barrel, this pistol was always very accurate and a joy to shoot.
At one point the accuracy fell off and I couldn’t get it to shoot as it once did. I thought the barrel had been pitted and I would have to have it re-barreled so I sent it to Ruger for an estimate. It arrived from Ruger seven days later, completely rebuilt at no charge! They cleaned the lead out of the barrel, installed new springs, test fired the gun, and sent it back to me for nothing. Ruger builds great guns and stands behind them. I polished and re-blued this one – I just can’t leave them with a factory finish.
